چکیده

Acknowledgements The work presented in this thesis is not only the product of my effort, but also a product of the support of countless individuals around me. I would like to thank my advisor, Dr. Agnieszka Roginska, for welcoming me aboard her research project, a portion of which constitutes this thesis. For being a teacher and a guide through the entirety of my graduate education. For pushing me to my full potential. I would like to thank Dr. Kent P. Friedman, who was an anchor of medical expertise through this project. I would like to thank James Paul Keary, who has had just as much a hand in this work as I have. His efforts were key to taking this project from theory and prototypes to fully functional tools.

Exploring Sonification for Augmenting Brain Scan Data

Medical image data has traditionally been analyzed using visual displays and statistical analysis methods. Visual representations are limited due to the nature of the display and the number of dimensions that can be represented visually. This paper describes the use of sonification to represent medical image data of brain scans of patients with AlzheimerÕs dementia. The use of sonification is d...

The Participation of Three Brain Tissues in Alzheimer’s disease Diagnosis from Structural MRI

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive and irreversible disease which gradually makes patients unable to do their daily routines. Although the present treatments can not cure the disease completely, its early detection can reduce symptoms and enhance the patients’ life quality. In the current literature, using the grey matter (GM) tissue which is known as an appropriate biomarker is highly c...

Detection of Alzheimer\\\\\\\'s Disease using Multitracer Positron Emission Tomography Imaging

Alzheimer's disease is characterized by impaired glucose metabolism and demonstration of amyloid plaques. Individual positron emission tomography tracers may reveal specific signs of pathology that is not readily apparent on inspection of another one. Combination of multitracer positron emission tomography imaging  yields promising results. In this paper, 57 Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging ini...

The effect of incorporating the quantitative analysis besides visual assessments of 18F-FDG brain PET images for the localization of epileptogenic zones

Introduction: FDG Brain PET is a valuable paraclinical tool for presurgical assessments of patients suffering from refractory epilepsy. By the widespread accessibility of PET, recognizing the functional lesions has become a current practical method especially in preoperative evaluations of the partial epilepsy disorders. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of quantit...

FDG-PET improves diagnosis in patients presenting with focal onset dementias

Alzheimer’s disease is the cause of up to one third of cases of primary progressive aphasia or corticobasal syndrome. The objective of this study was to determine the accuracy of FDG-PET metabolic imaging for detection of Alzheimer’s disease in patients with primary progressive aphasia or corticobasal syndrome. Methods: A cohort of subjects (n = 94) including those with expert clinical diagnosi...
